Bowen Technique
Bowen technique refers to a holistic system of healing which is totally non-invasive and involves very precise and gentle rolling movements across muscle and connective tissue. It is a unique system of neuromuscular re-patterning and affects the nervous system to bring about complete balance in structural and energetic levels and stimulates energy flows. Bowen technique therapy is safe and is suitable for people of all ages; even pregnant women and new born babies are treated for many pre-natal and post-natal issues. When the Bowen technique therapist presses across muscles and tendons with light touches using his thumbs and forefingers, toxins and built-up stress are released and the clients experience immediate relaxation and some even fall asleep within minutes into the session. The Bowen therapy affects the physical, chemical, emotional, and mental aspects of a person and brings about an enhanced state of relaxation, and heightened sense of well-being and ease. Some of the positive results that the clients experience after a Bowen technique therapy session includes automatic correction of misalignments, relief from muscle pain and stiffness as lymphatic flow is restored, softening of scar tissues, etc. Bowen technique is found to be effective in treating upper and lower back pain; sciatica; neck problems; headaches including migraines; foot and ankle problems; frozen shoulder; knee, hip and pelvic problems; arm, elbow, wrist and hand pain; jaw problems and teeth grinding; vertigo; kidney and bladder disorders; fluid retention; constipation and diarrhoea; chronic fatigue syndrome, and several other issues.
The Bowen technique massage is not exactly a conventional massage therapy; it is, in fact, light touches at precise points on the body that is done on skin or through light clothing. There will be two or three minutes pause between the moves to give the body enough time to respond to the touches. These soft touches by the therapist affect the autonomic nervous system and stimulate the body’s powers to heal. Even those who are in perfect health enjoy Bowen technique therapy sessions to maintain optimal body balance and to achieve a sense of relaxation.
The Bowen technique therapists are required to undergo Bowen technique training. The therapists must know the correct anatomical positions to know what areas to treat and when to make each move. Since Bowen therapy is different from other massage therapies, it needs special training to understand the correct way to apply pressure. Several institutions offer courses in Bowen technique therapy which provide training in the full range of procedures of the therapy.
